Spring Refresh: Top 3 Tips to Revive Floors

As we finally leave the depths of winter, now is the time to get your floors ready for summer with our easy spring cleaning guide.
If winter’s wet weather and extra indoor time have left your floors looking worse for wear, now’s the perfect time for a deep clean and some well-deserved care. Here are our top three spring cleaning tips to refresh any type of flooring.
1. Dust Be Gone!
No matter what kind of flooring you have, the first step is to clear away dust and debris. That includes kitchen grime, pet hair, and whatever your kids may have tracked in.
For carpets, a thorough vacuuming is key. Before switching it on, ensure the vacuum is empty and working at full capacity. Make multiple passes over the carpet—even if your vacuum is top-of-the-line—and don’t forget to use those handy attachments to clean edges and corners.
Moving furniture can also make a big difference. Cleaning underneath keeps dust from building up, and it’s a great chance to refresh your room’s layout. A new arrangement not only revitalizes your space but also helps prevent permanent indentations from heavy furniture.
For hard flooring like LVT, laminate, and hardwood, grab a broom or a microfiber mop to sweep up loose particles before moving on to the next step.
2. To Mop or Not to Mop?
For LVT, vinyl, and tile flooring, mopping is the way to go. Since these surfaces are generally waterproof, you don’t need to worry about a little moisture. For the best results, use a cleaning solution designed for your specific flooring type. While LVT is durable, avoid abrasive brushes or scourers, as over-scrubbing can dull its finish.
Remember to mop, not swab though – use minimal amounts of water, don’t leave it soggy and make sure to dry where possible.
If you have laminate, engineered wood, or hardwood, approach mopping with caution. A lightly damp microfiber mop is usually enough to freshen up the surface. Excess water can cause hardwood to warp and laminate to swell, so be mindful of moisture levels. For tougher marks, read on.
3. Stubborn Stains? No Problem!
If dusting and mopping haven’t fully restored your floors, it’s time for some targeted stain removal. When elbow grease alone isn’t enough, consider using a specialist cleaner or bringing in a professional.
Choosing the right product is crucial—using the wrong cleaner could strip colour or damage your flooring’s integrity. Not sure which one to use? Our Floor Factory team can recommend the best option for your specific floor type.
For carpets, spot cleaning can work wonders. But if it’s been a while since your last professional clean, spring cleaning is the perfect time to schedule one. Professional cleaning not only refreshes your carpets but also adds a protective coating to improve stain resistance and extend their lifespan.
